The plant's contribution to Victory: a story of courage and dedication

The story The St. Petersburg Precision Alloy Plant is rooted in the work of the legendary Krasny Nailshchik enterprise, which has become one of the symbols of the heroism of besieged Leningrad.

Despite the terrible conditions — hunger, cold, shelling and bombardment — the plant did not stop working even for a day. This was made possible thanks to the dedication and resilience of the workers, who understood that the fate of the country depended on their work.

What did the plant produce during the war

The enterprise has made an invaluable contribution to defending the city and supporting the front. Under the blockade, vital materials and products necessary to strengthen the country's military potential were produced:

  • Armor plates for tanks and self-propelled guns. The plant supplied strong steel plates used in the armor protection of Red Army combat vehicles.
  • Railway rails and components. Without railroads, it was impossible to deliver ammunition, evacuate the wounded and supply the city. The plant repaired and restored transport infrastructure.
  • Metal structures for defensive facilities. Beams, fittings, parts of fortifications and other products necessary for the construction and repair of fortifications were produced.
  • Parts for weapons. Under the blockade, the plant produced components for communication equipment, assault rifles, grenades, mortars, tanks — everything that was needed at the front.
  • Armored cable for the Road of Life. Of particular importance was the production of 904 tons of armored cable wire for the underwater cable across Lake Ladoga — this line provided a vital link to the “mainland”.

In just eight months of 1942, production increased by almost 20 times — from 35 tons in May to 649 tons in December. This leap was made possible due to the teamwork of the team and the clear distribution of resources.

People during the blockade: heroism at work

In December 1942, the company already employed 1,115 people, and more than 75% of the staff were women. Workers worked hard, often at temperatures below freezing, under conditions of malnutrition and constant threat of shelling. The plant management has organized measures to maintain the health of employees and their families.

Social and humanitarian initiatives of the plant

  • Making vitamin C from pine needles. The central plant laboratory produced more than 35,000 liters of vitamin C, which saved workers from vitamin deficiency and strengthened their immunity in harsh conditions.
  • Establishment of a subsidiary farm. An agricultural enterprise with an area of 20 hectares was organized in Toksovsky District. It provided factory workers and their families with food.
  • Participation in the restoration of the city. In addition to working in production, the plant's employees voluntarily participated in clearing debris, restoring urban infrastructure and repairing Leningrad's housing stock.

In 1943, the plant received a Certificate of Honor for its high yield grown in private and public gardens, which testifies to self-organization and team cohesion.

Leningrad's industrial feat: interesting facts

To assess the scale of work done by Leningraders, it is worth recalling several significant figures:

  • They continued to work in besieged Leningrad more than 90% of industrial enterprises.
  • During the war years, the Leningrad Front received hundreds of thousands of tons shells, ammunition and equipment produced in the most besieged city.
  • The bulk of the work fell on my shoulders women, teenagers and pensioners — they have become a new pillar of the industrial rear.

These facts are not just pages of history. These are lessons of true love for the Motherland and heroic work that everyone should know about.
