17XNGT — alloy with specified elastic characteristics. It is widely used in the production of special and general-purpose spring elements, including those operating at T ≤ 250°C.
The 17KhNGT precision alloy belongs to the class of spring steels and, like all materials in this group, has increased resistance to deformation both under short-term and prolonged loads. They are characterized by high heat resistance and corrosion resistance, including when used in aggressive environments.
The chemical composition of the 17KhNGT alloy is regulated by GOST 10994-74. In accordance with this document, the following elements and alloying additives must be present in the smelted metal in the established mass fractions:
The basis of the presented alloy is iron, a metal with low strength and low corrosion resistance. However, the introduction of alloying additives makes it possible not only to strengthen the material and increase its corrosion resistance, but also to reduce the grain size of perlite and ferrite, which leads to an increase in viscosity.
Chromium increases the hardness, corrosion resistance and electrical resistance of the material, nickel increases viscosity, plasticity and impact strength. Manganese has a positive effect on the hardness and wear resistance of the metal. The addition of titanium improves its machinability, and silicon — increase heat resistance and make the material more elastic. Aluminum reduces the tendency to form scale. Carbon increases strength and hardness. Sulphur and phosphorus are technological impurities and do not affect the characteristics of the metal.
The name of the 17HNGT alloy indicates the amount of basic alloying additives in the metal presented. Letter X and the number 17 front indicates that the composition contains approximately 17% chromium. The letter H means that the material contains nickel, G — manganese, T — titanium.
It is recommended to melt the 17XNGT precision alloy in vacuum induction furnaces; it is recommended to quench it at temperatures from 1,000°C to 1,020°C in an aqueous medium. Aging is performed at T = from 420°C to 440°C for 3-6 hours. For hardened steel, this time interval is reduced to 1-3 hours.
Before manufacturing stamped products from 17HNGT steel, the material is recommended to be pre-heat treated. To do this, it is necessary to heat the metal to T= from 1,050 to 1,080°C, and then cool it in water. Elements of complex configuration should be created at temperatures from 600°C to 700°C; cold processing can be carried out with a stick of up to 60%.
17HNGT steel is widely used in the aircraft industry and other industries for the manufacture of elements of automatic control systems. It is most often used in the manufacture of sensitive parts and assemblies whose operating temperature reaches 250°C.
