HN78T

KhN78T is a heat-resistant precision alloy for use in extreme conditions

Heat-resistant alloys have become indispensable materials in technological processes that require high resistance to temperature loads and oxidizing environments. Among these materials, KhN78T stands out, a high-alloy nickel alloy that is suitable for long-term operation at temperatures up to 1100°C.

KhN78T is a nickel alloy with a high content of titanium and chromium

The chemical composition of the KhN78T precision material is regulated by GOST 5632-72. In accordance with current standards, the presented alloy must contain the following chemical elements:

  • nickel (Ni), the basis of the material, gives it high thermal stability, ranges from 70.003% to 80.85%;
  • chromium (Cr) — forms intermetallic compounds with nickel, providing hardening and resistance to oxidation — is present in amounts from 19% to 22%;
  • titanium (Ti) — it must be at least 0.15% and not more than 0.35%;
  • iron (Fe) — does not exceed 6%;
  • silicon (Si) — up to 0.8%;
  • manganese (Mn) — no more than 0.7%;
  • carbon (C) — should not exceed 0.12% — its low content prevents the formation of various carbides that can lead to the embrittlement of the material;
  • sulfur (S) — no more than 0.012%;
  • phosphorus (P) — no more than 0.015%.

Special attention is paid to low carbon content and harmful contaminants, such as sulfur and phosphorus. This is achieved through the use of vacuum induction furnace and strict control of chemical composition at all stages of production. This approach ensures the purity and uniformity of the material, which significantly affects its properties and applications.

Decoding the marking

In the marking of the XN78T alloy, the first letter (X) indicates the presence of chromium, N — for the presence of nickel, and the number 78 — means its average percentage (78%). Letter T talk about the presence of titanium as one of the main alloying elements.

The main advantages and characteristics of HN78T

The heat-resistant alloy KhN78T is characterized by increased resistance to oxidation. A passive film forms on the surface of the material, which prevents metal destruction when working at high temperatures (up to 1100℃) and in oxidizing media.

KhN78T has a high degree of resistance to various types of corrosion, in particular, in aggressive environments containing oxygen, sulfur, phosphorus and nitrogen. The alloy also has excellent mechanical properties, including high strength and fatigue resistance at elevated temperatures. This makes it an ideal material for elements subject to intense loads at high temperatures.

Due to its unique properties, the KhN78T alloy is widely used in various industries. It is used by:

  • in the automotive industry when manufacturing parts for internal combustion chambers of engines;
  • in the aviation and energy industries in the production of turbine blades;
  • in the field of processing materials for the manufacture of fire tubes for industrial furnaces;
  • in the oil and gas industry when creating equipment for the production, transportation and refining of oil and gas, where high strength and resistance to aggressive environments are required.
